Bedfordshire Community Health Services launch is successful

Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, Central Bedfordshire Council and Bedford Borough Council are delighted that the new Bedfordshire Community Health Services which is being provided by East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) together with Cambridgeshire Community Services (CCS) NHS Trust has successfully launched.

The five year contract covers a range of adult’s, children’s and other specialist services including: nutrition and dietetics; podiatry; community dental; wheelchair services, as well as drug and alcohol services for children and young people.

Dr Andrew Edwards, GP and clinical lead for Community Health Services, Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said:

“Over the past few months we’ve been working closely with ELFT and CCS to ensure there was no disruption to patients when the service started at the beginning of April, so we are pleased the planned transition went as planned.”

Dr Edwards added: “ELFT has demonstrated that it puts service users at the heart of everything it does and ensures that they have a strong voice in developing services. Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group and its commissioning partners are committed to the ongoing development of Community Health Services and enhancing the patient experience by improving the co-ordination of care.  This new contract enables us to continue delivering high quality health and social care services that are safe, fit for purpose and sustainable for the local population.”

Dr Navina Evans, Chief Executive of ELFT, said:  “Bedfordshire Community Health Services is being provided as a single, integrated service by ourselves and Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.  We are working in partnership with CCS to provide joined-up care built around the needs of the individual, and shaped using our expertise in continuous improvement with service user and carer involvement.  This is an exciting time for the Trust and we are enjoying working with our new Bedfordshire colleagues."
