Retired NHS nurse Susanne Hooper followed in her mother’s footsteps when she trained as a nurse in the 1960’s. Susanne’s mum qualified as a State Registered Nurse in 1939, well before the founding of the NHS and went on to become Matron of a Cottage Hospital and Midwifery unit. Her last NHS role was as a District Midwife before her well-earned retirement in 1978.
Sue became a State Registered Nurse just like her mum, but also trained for a number of additional professional roles as a State Certified Midwife, a Registered Children’s Nurse, an Orthopaedic Trained Nurse, and a District Nurse
Sue is especially proud of the very smart uniforms that nurses wore as demonstrated in the picture.
