Do you want to help shape local NHS services in Bedfordshire?

06 November 2018

Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (BCCG) is offering a unique opportunity for members of the public to get involved in shaping local health services.

We are looking for new members to join our established Patient and Public Engagement Committee (PPEC) which ensures that patients and the public have been involved in decisions that are made about local NHS services.

The Patient and Public Representatives will have the opportunity to scrutinise communications and engagement plans and offer opinions and recommendations to provide a patient and public perspective in shaping services.

Representatives do not need to have qualifications or experience working in healthcare. We just ask that applicants have an active interest in local health services and have some experience using NHS services in Bedfordshire, whether that be for themselves or for someone they have cared for.

Alison Borrett, BCCG Governing Body Lay Member for Patient and Public Engagement, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to get involved with their local health services. The Patient Representatives act as an ambassador for residents in Bedfordshire, provide them with the opportunity to voice their opinions on local service changes and provide us with a link back to the communities which we want to engage with. As a formal subcommittee of the Governing Body, the PPEC has an important role in assuring the Governing Body that we are involving local communities in our decisions.

Cheryl Green, Patient and Public Representative for BCCG, said: “I joined the PPEC because I believe that it is very important for the patients and public voice to be heard by the commissioners and it allows me to have the opportunity to have a say on local NHS service changes.

I feel valued as a member of the committee and that my opinions are taken into account and have real influence on decisions made by the CCG.”

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 21 November 2018 at 1:00pm, with interviews being held on Wednesday 5 December 2018.
