Advice for parents in Bedfordshire on how best to protect their children from illness this winter is now available online. NHS Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (BCCG) has uploaded onto its website a recording of its first webinar for parents with young children.
Earlier this week Dr Sanhita Chakrabarti, BCCG’s lead clinician for children, gave an online talk to help parents look after their little ones during the winter months.
During the webinar entitled “Help Us Help You”, Dr Chakrabarti offers advice on how to recognise the symptoms of common winter illnesses and how best to treat them. She also talks about the importance of registering with a GP practice, the flu jab and the types of over-the-counter medicines every parent should keep at home to treat minor childhood ailments.
Dr Chakrabarti then goes on to explain where parents can go to seek medical help when they have concerns about their child’s health. This can be the local pharmacist, NHS111, GP surgery, Walk-in Centre, the Urgent Treatment Centre or A&E.
Dr Chakrabarti says: “With several healthcare services in Bedford, parents need to know where to go to get the right treatment and advice. The webinar allowed us to explain the different services available and highlight to parents that choosing the right service will ensure their child is seen and treated more quickly. This will also help the NHS cope with the extra demands winter always brings.”
BCCG is planning more webinars to provide health information to targeted groups. To listen to BCCG’s first webinar, log on to https://youtu.be/Z6otZSLAIuM.
