Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group has set out its plans for improving the health of local people over the coming year in its first public prospectus. Better care, better health, better value has been written and designed with the public and patients in mind and brings together several other public documents in an easy-to-read format.
It considers the health needs of local people and sets out BCCG’s ambitions to provide higher quality, safe healthcare and to bridge the gap in health between the richest and poorest in the county.
In addition our prospectus looks at some of our plans for individual services including out-of-hours care, cardiology services and dementia care. Over-riding our individual plan is the work we are doing with local authorities and other agencies to bring health and social care together.
Our priority is to ensure we involve patients and the public in all our plans and decisions about local healthcare and our prospectus sets out how we are enabling local people and communities to get involved in our work.
BCCG is responsible for planning, organising and buying the majority of healthcare for the people of Bedfordshire. It is run and led by local GPs, nurses and other clinicians. It came into existence in April 2013 having operated as a shadow organisation for the previous 12 months.
Better care, better health, better value draws on information already available to the public such as the Bedfordshire Plan for Patients, Bedfordshire CCG Strategic Plan and draft Communications and Engagement Strategy . These documents are available on the BCCG website
