GPs in Bedford are working with local people and Bedford Hospital NHS Trust to determine how children’s services will return to the town.
Diane Gray, director of strategy at Bedfordshire CCG which buys children’s health services in Bedfordshire, said: “It is unthinkable that a town the size of Bedford should be without high quality, safe children’s healthcare. We have begun working with local families, doctors and nurses to determine how services should return to Bedford and will continue this work through the autumn.
“No decisions will be taken until we have completed the consultation process. But we will not bring services back to Bedford until we are sure they are sustainable and meet the needs of our children and families.”
