Patient Participation Groups in GP Practices in the Ivel Valley area are holding an information event for people with Type 2 Diabetes. The Healthy Living Seminar will take place on Thursday 20 April 2017, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the Elgar Room, Weatherley Centre, Biggleswade.
The seminar is supported by NHS Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group and will enable participants to live a healthier life by being better equipped to cope with diabetes on a day to day basis.
The seminar will offer a programme of talks on subject like how to reduce risk, food labelling and cooking with diabetes from speakers such as Dr William Hollington, Senior GP at Ivel Medical Centre.
There will also be a number of stands manned by organisations that will be happy to discuss what they can do to help you, such as Sight Concern (Bedfordshire), an independent, local, sight-loss charity, Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BRCC) Walking4Health and Beezee bodies, a Public Health sponsored organisation offering weight management and healthy lifestyle programmes people within Beds and Herts, helping everyone to get fitter.
Around 3 million people in the UK have diabetes; with Type 2 diabetes accounting for around 90%. Diabetes can cause serious long-term health problems. It's the most common cause of vision loss and blindness in people of working age.
