Self care

Bedfordshire CCG does not routinely support the prescribing of medication that is available to buy from local pharmacies or supermarkets for children or adults. Here are examples of where medicines should be purchased by the patient/parent/guardian.

Many patients visit their GP or A&E department with minor illnesses which could have been treated by self care with advice from their pharmacist.

Ask your pharmacist for advice

Your local pharmacist can give you friendly, expert advice on self care and where appropriate over-the-counter medicines that can help with lots of common illnesses and minor ailments.  Find out more in the Ask your pharmacist for advice leaflet

Stock up your medicine cabinet

To support self care at home you can ensure your medicine cabinet is well-stocked with essential medicines.  Find out more and what you should buy in the Stock up your medicine cabinet leaflet
