Formal Consultation on Value Based Elective Commissioning (VBEC) - survey closed

We have conducted a formal consultation asking local people to give their views on whether gluten-free food, over the counter medicines and specialist fertility services should be provided by the NHS in Bedfordshire.

The consultation period was from Tuesday 3 May through to Sunday 24 July 2016.  The results of the formal consultation have now been collated and are included in a report which was considered by members of Bedfordshire CCG’s Governing Body on 24 November 2016.

After considering the wide-ranging feedback from both members of the public and support organisations the Governing Body voted in favour of the proposal to no longer fund gluten-free foods and over the counter medicines on the NHS in Bedfordshire, but to continue to commission specialist fertility services in line with BCCG’s current policy.

As part of the listening exercise, the CCG met with a number of local groups and invited members of the public to take part in a survey.

A report of the findings was submitted to BCCG’s Governing Body on Thursday 7 April.  At this meeting the Governing Body decided to proceed with a full public consultation about these three services. This consultation has now ended.
