Primary care medicines formulary

Page graphic We want to ensure that our patients get the medicines they need to achieve the best possible health outcomes within the budget we have available.

Our primary care medicines formulary aims to provide high quality, safe, evidence-based and affordable prescribing. It gives details of the most appropriate first choice of medicines for GP practices to use for patients in Bedfordshire.

The formulary does not cover specialist drugs prescribed in hospitals.

The formulary is not intended to supersede NICE Technology Appraisals Not all NICE approved drugs are appropriate for prescribing in GP practices and so not all of these medicines may be specifically listed. Clinicians can and should prescribe medicines approved by NICE Technology Appraisals where patients meet the clinical criteria set out in the guidance and that it is the most appropriate treatment option in the clinical judgement of the treating clinician.

For more about the CCG's formulary and the local Joint Prescribing Committee, please see the GP Ref website.
