What Is an STP?

In 2016, NHS England outlined a new approach for health care providers to help ensure that services are planned by place rather than around individual institutions.

To do this, local health and care providers have been asked to work together in regional ‘footprints’ to produce a Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP), showing how services will evolve and become sustainable over the next five years. There are 44 STP ‘footprints’ in England.

Twelve local NHS organisations and four local authorities in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes are working together to develop the STP for the area, which are linked to five priorities that local partners have identified.

Draft plans for the region were submitted to regulators in June and then October, and plans continue to be developed with involvement from all 16 partner organisations. You can find out all about your local STP on this website: www.blmkstp.co.uk

We now eagerly await feedback from NHS England and NHS Improvement on the draft plans so as to move forward and involve local people in meaningful consultation and solution design.
